Energized
by EnerPrime, Team DNR, an all female, multi-sport racing team
placed first in their class at the "24 Hours of Adrenalin"
mountain bike relay May 13-14 at Laguna Seca Recreation Area in
Monterey, California.
The
five-member team, sponsored by IMPaX HealthPrime, were "very
pleased with our performance," says team member Julie Cheng.
She credits the team’s increasing endurance through the course
of the race to EnerPrime.
The
fastest growing mountain-biking craze, 24-hour races are Team
DNR’s specialty. Each involves 4-5 one-hour laps (for a five-member
team), from noon Saturday to noon Sunday. Characterized as ‘the
Woodstock of mountain biking,’ the event sports a festival atmosphere,
with music, food and entertainment.
"The
main concern is sleep deprivation and the need for muscle recovery,"
says Julie. "We have about four hours to eat and refuel before
each lap. After our first, we noticed that while our cardiovascular
systems seemed to be holding out well, our legs were burning more
than usual. Three members of our team, Suz, Terri, and
myself, had just completed a ½ Ironman Triathlon the previous
week, and we were worried that we were not fully recovered. With
20 more hours of racing ahead, and four more laps each to go,
this was not a good time to feel like our legs were exhausted.
"Terri
mentioned that her brother-in-law, an exercise physiologist, said
that with exercise, we break down muscle tissue which causes an
increased release of free radicals, and that the key vitamins
recommended for tissue repair and muscle recovery are antioxidants.
She said that the antioxidant vitamins he recommended are all
the primary ingredients in EnerPrime PLUS a lot more.
"At
that point we decided we would try taking EnerPrime between each
lap. We took a minimum of one tablespoon each time, which was
about every 5 hours. The results were amazing and encouraging.
We noticed improved muscle recovery, and our lap times got faster
and faster all the way through to the end of the race!"
As
an IMPaX Director, Julie knew the benefits of taking EnerPrime
on a daily basis, but had wondered how much could be used safely
in extreme endurance events. "We concluded during this event
that for us, the benefits of muscle recovery, sustained energy
and mental alertness were all significantly improved with increased
use of the product," says Julie.
Team
DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) is a non-profit educational organization
formed to promote awareness of medical advance directives. The
members, Julie Cheng, Suz Lowry, Terri Lugert, Liz Gomes and Therese
Nielsen, are all health care professionals.
